February marks the beginning of spring allergy season in western Washington

It may not feel like spring outside, but allergy season has begun in our area! If you’re noticing that your eyes are itchy and watery, you are most likely experiencing allergic conjunctivitis or “eye allergies.”

At Rainier Eye, we stock Allegro allergy drops to soothe itchy eyes, flush out pollen, and provide a barrier against allergens landing in your tear film. When over-the-counter eye drops and antihistamines aren’t enough to keep you comfortable, we can examine you and prescribe stronger medications, too.

But, first try these simple tips to reduce your body’s exposure:

  • Check your vehicle’s cabin air filter & replace it if dusty

  • Swap your furnace filter

  • Vacuum your home and wash bedding more often

  • Wash your face and rinse your hair before bed so that you aren’t sleeping in a face full of pollen

  • Wear sunglasses outside to block allergens before they reach your eyes

  • Drink lots of water to help maintain the body’s natural barriers by preventing dry eye and helping your nasal passages

If these tips still aren't keeping you comfortable, schedule online or call for last-minute appointments.
